Concussions and Acquired Brain Injury:
Specialized skills are needed to accurately assess and treat a client after a concussion and acquired brain injury. Apex OT’s are able to use research-based cognitive assessments and programming to assist an individual with returning to work and other daily living activities. Other common symptoms of concussions related to sensory sensitivities and vestibular symptoms can also be targeted.
Spinal Cord Injury:
All aspects of life are affected by a Spinal Cord Injury and a therapist is required to make the appropriate recommendations for everything from mobility (e.g. specialty wheelchairs and seating needs) to accessibility of the home environment and workplace. Frequently there are numerous adaptations that are required for the home and worksite, but also for basic needs, such as feeding, bathing, and dressing.
Migraines and Light Sensitivities:
Often individuals suffering migraines, vertigo, or concussions will complain of increased sensitivity to light and other environmental stimuli. Apex OT’s are able to assess the environment and provide practical, inexpensive solutions to promote increased function in the home and/or work setting. Various aids and adaptations can also be utilized to reduce exposure to the specific stimuli that is preventing workplace productivity.
